Addressing the Launch of HDF's Mass Awareness Campaign “Umeed Say Aagay”, Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb lauded the work of HDF in reducing Infant mortality in its communities and stressed malnutrition prevails globally and the window of opportunity through “The 1000 golden days - starting from day of conception to child’s second birthday” is an opportunity in which we can intervene to save lives. She also awarded shields to Chairman HDF Board of Directors Dr. Muhammad Khalid Riaz, Executive Director Saeed Ul Hassan, and CEO Azhar Saleem.
Umeed Say Aagay is HDF's campaign for mother and child wellness in the first 1000 days and beyond. The event was to create mass awareness in Pakistan about the importance of healthy nutrition practices for mother and children in the first 1000 days through youth led social movement and to promote early initiation and exclusive breast feeding up to six months and continued breast feeding up to two years in addition to age appropriate complementary feeding to achieve optimal growth, cognitive development and health for young children.
The campaign calls for an urgent action both at individual and collective level to raise mass awareness about the alarming implications of malnutrition and focusing on promoting right nutrition in the First 1000 Days of mother and child to strengthen the foundation that lasts through newborn’s entire life.
The event was attended by Members HDF Board of Directors, high government officials, civil society and academia. It was widely covered the print and electronic media.
